Phillies lead this National League Division Series 1-0

Tonight the Philadelphia Phillies host the Cincinnati Reds in game 2 of the NLDS. The Phillies won the first game 4-0, as Ray Halladay threw the second post-season no hitter in Major League history and he also threw his second no-hitter of the year. The Reds' offense was the best in the NL this season and if they cannot come up with some offense tonight they will be in a 0-2 hole heading back to Cincinnati.

This season the Phillies were 54-30 at home and the Reds were 42-39 on the road.

The Reds have had a tough time beating the Phillies for some time, as they are 8-20 against them in this last 28 games and 3-13 against them in their last 16 games in Philadelphia.

Taking the mound for the Phillies tonight is Roy Oswalt (13-13 2.76 ERA), who in his last outing only pitched one inning of relief against the Braves giving up 1 earned run. On the hill tonight for the Reds is Bronson Arroyo (17-10 3.88 ERA), who in his last start was solid going 7 innings and only giving up 1 earned run in a win.

Even though Halladay will likely win the Cy Young award Oswalt was the best pitcher for Philadelphia down the stretch. After coming over in a trade from Houston Oswalt went 7-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 13 games with the Phillies including going 7-0 in his last 10 starts. Oswalt has yet to lose at Citizens Bank Park this season.

Oswalt has pitched stellar against the Reds in his career going 23-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 34 games against them, but this season he was only 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA against Cincinnati.

Arroyo has not had much luck against the Phillies in his career going 1-5 with a 5.54 ERA in 8 games against them. The hostile fans in Philadelphia will likely not bother Arroyo, as he played for the Red Sox in 2004 when they overcame a 3-0 deficit against the Yankees.

Cincinnati's offense led the National League this season in batting average, HR's, and runs, but they have not scored against the Phillies in the last 30 innings.
