Opening Moneyline: Yankees -109 / Rangers -101 O/U 9 runs
Time: 8:07 PM EST Friday October 22, 2010 on TBS
The Rangers lead this best of 7 ALCS 3-2
The Yankees stayed alive with a 7-2 win in Game 5 and now have to beat Texas again in the Lone Star State on Friday night to force a Game 7. New York entered Game 5 hitting just below .200 in the series, but their bats came alive in the game and they scored 7 runs on 9 hits. The Yankees have not come back from a 3-1 deficit in a playoff series since way back in 1958.
The Yankees will go into Game 6 short-handed since slugging 1B Mark Teixeira is out for the season with a hamstring injury.
The Rangers are hoping Game 5 was a fluke, as they have dominated the series. Texas has outscored the Yankees 32-18 and out-hit them .316 to .217, and .348 to .160 with runners in scoring position. The Yankees got clutch hitting in Game 5 and they will have to in this game to force a Game 7.
Phil Hughes (18-8 4.19 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees in Game 6 and in his last outing in Game 2 he was roughed up for 10 hits in only 4 innings of work to take the loss. If he does not pitch better in this game the Yankees will likely be watching the World Series from home. Taking the hill for the Rangers will be Colby Lewis (12-13 3.72 ERA), who pitched 5 innings giving up 6 hits in Game 2 to get the win.
The Yankees are only 1-4 in Hughes' last 5 road starts and are 0-4 in his last 4 road starts against teams with a winning record.
The Rangers are only 5-11 in Lewis' last 16 starts.
Lewis really has to worry about Robinson Cano, who has been on fire in this series and is hitting .421 and in Game 5 tied the record for most HR's in a ALCS with 4.
The Yankees will need the 3 guys of Alex Rodriguez (.176), Nick Swisher (.105) and Marcus Thames (.154) to start hitting or they may be out of this series.
The big bats of the Rangers were tamed in Game 5 in New York and they are hoping their home crowd can help them out to get back to the mashers they have been the regular season and for most of this series. However, the Rangers have played better away from home in the post-season only winning one game in the playoffs so far at Arlington Stadium.
