Oakland A’s at Seattle Mariners Betting Odds

Opening Moneyline: Oakland -135 / Seattle +110 O/U 8 runs

Time: 10:10 PM EST Tuesday April 13, 2010

Tonight in an AL West match up the Seattle Mariners host the Oakland A’s. Obviously the season is just beginning, but while nobody expected anything from the A’s this season, who lead the AL West, the Mariners had high expectations this season and have stumbled out of the gate.

This season the Mariners are 0-1 at home and the A’s are 3-1 on the road.

The Mariners have lost 2 in a row and the A’s have won 2 in a row.

Taking the mound for Oakland tonight is Brett Anderson (1-0 0.00 ERA), who beat the Mariners in his last start giving up 0 earned runs in 6 innings. Doug Fister (0-1 4.50 ERA) takes the hill for Seattle and he lost his last game, against Oakland, giving up 2 earned runs in only 2 innings pitched. Fister through 96 pitches in only 4 innings of work in his first start of the season.

Both of these teams met yesterday and the A’s beat the Mariners 4-0.

The A’s are off to a fast start because of their solid pitching, which leads the American League with an ERA of 2.61 and their staff is holding opponents to a batting average of only .214. This season the A’s have held the Mariners to a batting average of .176 in the 5 games they have faced each other.

On the other side of the coin Seattle’s staff, still minus Cliff Lee who is on the DL, has struggled with a team ERA of 4.70 giving up 6 HR’s in 8 games and 3 of those dingers were hit by the A’s.

Seattle’s offense has not been hitting to say the least, as they have scored the 2nd fewest runs (21) in the American League so far.

These 2 teams have already played 5 times this season and Oakland has won 4 of those games.

Seattle was supposed to challenge for a playoff berth mainly because of their free agent acquisitions. However, Lee is on the DL, Milton Bradley has only 1 hit in 22 at bats, and Chine Figgens is only hitting .207. Even hitting machine Ichiro Suzuki only is hitting .250 with a grand total of 1 RBI.

Oakland 1B Daric Barton is off to a fast start leading the A’s in batting average (.348) and RBI’s (7).

There are still a ton of games to play, but Seattle needs to snap out of their early season slump and start pitching and hitting or they will be playing catch up for a while.
