Odds to Win the 2011 World Series

Philadelphia Phillies
Odds: +225

The Phillies have the lowest betting odds to win the 2011 World Series at Sportsbook.com and the main reason is their pitching staff, which has a chance to be the best one ever this season. They have Cy Young winner Roy Halladay and snagged the best free agent hurler in Cliff Lee. These 2 along with Roy Oswalt and Cole Hammels form a formidable staff. The Philadelphia offense is solid, but there are concerns since slugger Jayson Werth is now in Washington and Chase Utley’s health is a major issue.

Boston Red Sox
Odds: +400

The Red Sox had a busy off-season upgrading their offense with the addictions of Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. The staff only ranked 22nd in the league in team ERA and they need Josh Beckett to be healthy and for Dice K and Jon Lackey to rebound from sub-par seasons.

New York Yankees
Odds: +600

The Yankees may be a good betting value at +600 even though they lost out on the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. Closer Rafael Soriano was a great signing and he and Mariano Rivera will make them very hard to beat if they are late in games with a lead. A.J. Burnett has to pitch better than last season and Derek Jeter has to prove he still has it.

San Francisco Giants
Odds: +1500

The Giants won the Series last season and with their offense they will only go as far as their pitching takes them. Their offense could really get a boost if free agent Miguel Tejada can give their lineup some much-needed pop. Pitchers Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain must have good season again for San Francisco to get back to the playoffs.

Milwaukee Brewers
Odds: +1500

The Brewers have a good offense with the likes of Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun, but pitching is key for the Brew Crew this season. Last season they ranked 26th in the league in team ERA, but in the off-season they signed 2009 Cy Young winner Zach Greinke and Shaun Marcum. Fielder’s numbers dipped last season, but he is in a contract year and look for him to put up big numbers this season.

Braves, While Sox, Tigers, Twins, and Rangers Odds: +2000

The Braves won the NL Wild Card last season and they have the pitching. Slugger Dan Uggla was a great addition and they have emerging superstar Jason Hayward. They will get a huge lift if Chipper Jones can have one more solid offensive season.

The White Sox signed slugger Adam Dunn, but their pitching is the issue this season. Last season they ranked 18th in the league in team ERA and Jake Peavey begins the season on the DL.

The Tigers have the pitching with the likes of Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, but they only ranked 25th last season in team ERA. MVP runner-up Miguel Cabrera had off-season issues with his drinking, which is not good and they will need good seasons from free-agent additions 1B/C Victor Martinez and OF Magglio Ordonez.

The Twins have a solid team, but their one issue is health. P Carl Pavano and 1B Justin Morneau have to stay off the DL and Joe Mauer has to have another great year. One interesting stat is that the Twins had the best home record in the AL last season.

The Rangers made a surprise run to the World Series last season and they are a good betting value at +2000. They did lose Cliff Lee, but they still have a good staff and their offense may be better this season with the addition of Adrian Beltre. Disgruntled Michael Young has to get happy and be productive again and if he can do that, the pitching is solid, and Josh Hamilton is healthy and has another MVP season the Rangers have a good shot to get back to the Series.
