Opening Line: Lakers -7.5 / Warriors +7.5 O/U 223
Time: 10:30 PM EST Monday March 15, 2010 on ESPN
Tonight in a Western Conference match up in the City by the Bay the Golden State Warriors host the L.A. Lakers. While the Warriors are headed for another high draft pick the Lakers have the best record in the West and look to repeat as NBA champions. However, a few weeks back the Lakers had a comfortable lead in the conference, but now only lead Denver by 3 games and Dallas by 3.5 games.
The Lakers have won 2 in a row, after losing 3 straight, and are 6-4 in their last 10 games and the Warriors are coming off a win, but are only 2-8 in their last 10 games.
This season the Warriors are 14-19 at home and 37-27-1 ATS and the Lakers are 18-13 0n the road and 28-36-2 ATS.
In their last games the Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns 102-96 on Friday night and the Warriors beat the Toronto Raptors 124-112 on Saturday.
The Lakers have won 8 straight over the Warriors and in that span have averaged 121 ppg.
The Warriors won their last game and rookie Stephen Curry (16.2 ppg) had 35 points and 15 assists and Monta Ellis (25.6 ppg), who has recently come back from an injured back, scored 30 points. These 2 guys will have to play well tonight, but each has not played well in 2 games against the Lakers this season, as Curry has only averaged 13 ppg on 34.8% shooting and Ellis has averaged 20 ppg, which is almost 6 ppg less than his season average.
The Warriors will have to run and gun and light up the scoreboard tonight and while they are the 3rd highest scoring team in the league (107.4 ppg) they are giving up the most ppg (111.2 ppg).
Golden State is the worst team in the league on the boards with a rebounding differential of -8.9 rpg. They have to suck it up as a team and put bodies on Andrew Bynum (14.9 ppg 8.2 rpg) and Pau Gasol (16.9 ppg 11 rpg) and now allow them to score easy buckets in the paint and dominate the boards.
Kobe Bryant (27.7 ppg) will get his points, but the Warriors have to try to contain Bynum, Gasol, and Ron Artest (11.3 ppg).
Golden State is way overmatched in the frontcourt so their guards have to really shoot lights out to pull off the home upset.
