Opening Line: Dallas +6 / Orlando -6 O/U 201
Time: 8 PM EST Friday February 19, 2010 on ESPN
Tonight the streaking Orlando Magic host the new-look Dallas Mavericks. The Magic are 8-2 in their last 10 games and they are in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference 6 games back of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Mavs are only 4-6 in their last 10 games, but they did win their last game with their new players in the lineup.
This season Orlando is 21-5 at home and 25-26-1 ATS and Dallas is 17-12 on the road and 21-33 ATS.
Both teams won in their last game on Wednesday night, as Magic beat the Detroit Pistons 116-91 and the Mavs beat the Phoenix Suns 107-97.
Dallas is currently in the 4th position in the Western Conference, but look to move up in the standings in the 2nd half. They hope the trade that brought them Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson can do just that.
Butler (16.8 ppg) was the big gun in the trade, but he is only averaging 14 ppg on 31.3% shooting in his first 2 games in a Mavs' uniform. However, in 2 games against Orlando this season he has averaged 27 ppg.
With Erick Dampier out with an injury the Mavs will need their new addition C Brendan Haywood (9.7 ppg 10.2 rpg) to play good D against Magic C Dwight Howard (18.2 ppg 13.4 rpg).
The Mavs have had the Magic's number as of late, as they have won 5 of their last 6 games against them including their last 3 in Orlando.
The Magic have to play good defense against Dirk Nowitzki (24.7 ppg), who has torched them at home averaging 26.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 4.7 assists per game in Dallas' 3 game winning streak.
Tonight Dallas looks to avoid their first 3 game road losing streak of the season.
Vince Carter (16.5 ppg) and Rashard Lewis (14.9 ppg) will have to shoot well tonight so the Mavs do not pack the lane to contain Howard.
Dallas is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, and has an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog of 5.0-10.5.
Orlando is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 home games against teams with a winning road record.
The total has gone Over in 8 of the last 9 meetings between these 2 teams.
Our Selection : The Mavs did look much better in their last game, winning 107-97 at home versus the Suns. However, they have lost 4 of their last 5 on the road and will be in an unfavorable 3rd game in 4 days situation. The line is a bit high for us, so we'll just go with an opinion on this game Take Orlando -6.5
Dallas Mavericks at Miami Heat Odds 6-12
The Mavs are up 3-2 in this series heading to South Beach and for the Heat to force Game 7 they will have to play better in the 4th quarter, especially LeBron James. 5Dimes has the hometown Heat as 5-point favorites in Game 6 with a total of 187.
