Kansas Jayhawks at Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

Opening Line: Jayhawks -12.5 / Huskers +12.5 O/U 134

Time: 9 PM EST Wednesday January 13, 2010 on ESPN2

Tonight in the nation's heartland the Nebraska Cornhuskers host the 3rd ranked Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks are a legit national championship contender, but they lost their last game and are not the top-ranked team in the nation anymore. This is the first conference game for the Jayhawks and they look to get off to a good start in the Big 12 and can do so tonight with an away win over a solid Nebraska team. The Huskers lost their first Big 12 game in their last game and they will be behind the 8-ball if they lose this game falling to 0-2 in the conference.

This season Nebraska is 10-0 at home and 3-5 ATS and Kansas is 2-1 on the road and 6-6 ATS.

In their last game Kansas was upset, big time, losing to Tennessee 76-68 on Sunday and Nebraska was beat by Texas A&M 64-59 on Saturday.

Tonight Kansas looks to beat Nebraska for the 14th straight time and in their 13-game winning streak against the Huskers the average margin of victory has been 20.4 points.

Kansas has to play better than they did against Tennessee, major understatement, as in that loss they only shot 37.7% while committing 16 turnovers.

The Huskers are not a high scoring team, as they rank dead last in the Big 12 only averaging only 68.9 ppg, but they have the best defense in the conference only allowing an average of 58.6 ppg. The Huskers will have to play good defense tonight against a Jayhawks squad that averages 85.1 ppg.

The Huskers have to make this a low scoring game, as they only have 2 players that are averaging in double figures in F Christian Standhardinger (13 ppg) and Ryan Anderson (11.2 ppg). That will not be easy against a Kansas team that has 4 players averaging in double figures led by the G tandem of Xavier Henry (15.7 ppg) and Sherron Collins (15.6 ppg).

Huskers' C Brian Diaz (8.6 ppg 4.2 rpg) and Standhardinger (7 rpg) have a tall task to keep Kansas C Cole Aldrich (10.9 ppg 10.5 rpg) from getting easy buckets inside and dominating the glass.

If the Huskers cannot keep the Jayhawks from scoring they have no chance to win this game, as the simply do not have the offense to keep up with the Jayhawks.

Kansas is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss. Nebraska is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home underdog.

Our Selection : We could definitely make a case for laying the big points on the Jayhawks, but the total is where our money is going to be tonight. Kansas tasted defeat for the first time this season on Sunday losing on the road to Tennessee 76-68. The 76 points were the highest points allowed this season by the Jayhawks who have held opponents to an average of 59.8 points on the road. We think that the Jayhawks will be extra focused on the defensive side of play in this game and hey it doesn't hurt that the Cornhuskers have kept nine of their last ten opponents to 70 points or under. Take under 133.5 points
