Opening Line: Jayhawks -4 / Wildcats +4 O/U 155.5
Time: 7 PM EST Saturday January 30, 2010 on ESPN
Tonight in a Big 12 match up and a battle for the Sunflower State the 13th ranked Kansas State Wildcats host the 2nd ranked Kansas Jayhakws. Kansas has is undefeated in Big 12 play and since they dropped their first game of the season to Tennessee around 3 weeks ago the Jayhawks have won 5 straight and all wins were by double digits. The Wildcats are coming off a win and are 1-1 since knocking off #1 Texas a week and a half ago. If Kansas loses this game they will be tied with Texas atop the conference.
This season Kansas State is 10-2 at home and 11-4 ATS and Kansas is 4-1 on the road and 9-7-1 ATS.
In their last games Kansas State beat Baylor 76-74 and Kansas smoked Missouri beating them 84-64.
The Jayhawks have several future players on their roster and they are led by the backcourt of guards Sherron Collins (15.5 ppg), Xavier Henry (14.1 ppg), F Marcus Morris (12.6 ppg), and C Cole Aldrich (11.3 ppg). All of these guys can score and the Wildcats will have to play a good all-around game on defense in order to win this game.
Kansas State is led by their solid backcourt in the guard duo of Jacob Pullen (19.2 ppg) and Denis Clemente (14.7 ppg). Even though these 2 are the leading scorers the Wildcats have a good frontcourt with forwards Jamar Samuels (11.8 ppg) and Curtis Kelly (11.2 ppg).
Samuels (5 rpg) and Kelly (6.4 rpg) have a tough task in this game, as they have to keep Aldrich (10.3 rpg) from dominating the boards. Both of these guys give up a few inches to the Kansas C, so they will have to put a body on him and now allow him to get deep in the paint for easy buckets.
If Aldrich makes the Wildcats pack the lane to stop him the Kansas guards will have open looks from deep and that is not a good thing, as they can fill it up.
Both teams are averaging over 80 points per game, but the Jayhawks are more athletic so the Wildcats may have to try to slow the tempo of the game.
If the Kansas' backcourt can keep Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente from having big scoring games and not let them get open looks from 3-pt land they will be in great shape.
Kansas is 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 road games against teams with a winning home record, has an Under record of 8-3 in their last 11 games, and an Under record of 5-2 in their last 7 road games. Kansas State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 games, and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 home games. In the last 4 games between these 2 teams the total has gone Over.
Our Selection : Kansas State has lost only one game at home this season, losing to Oklahoma State by 4 last Saturday. The Wildcats were in a classic go against spot in that game after having 5 days to celebrate their victory over the previous undefeated Longhorns. Kansas State has outscored opponents by 19 points per game at home on the year. Take Kansas State +4
Butler Bulldogs vs. Duke Blue Devils 4-5
In the National Title game the Duke Blue Devils host the surprising Butler Bulldogs. The Blue Devils are shooting for their 4th National Championship while Butler is looking for their 1st. Both Duke and Butler have been winning with defense and the Bulldogs are the first team since the 1985 Villanova Wildcats to hold all their opponents in the NCAA tourney to under 60 points per game.
