Opening Line: Maryland +4.5 / Clemson -4.5 O/U 145.5

Time: 5:30 PM EST Sunday January 31, 2010

Tonight in an ACC match up the slumping 21st ranked Clemson Tigers host the streaking Maryland Terrapins. Even though Clemson is ranked and Maryland is not the Tigers have lost 3 straight and are in 5th place in the ACC one game under .500 (3-4) in conference play. Maryland has won 4 straight and are all alone atop the ACC at 4-1 in conference play. If the Terrapins win this game they should move into the top 25. Conversely, if Clemson loses this home game they will probably drop out of the top 25.

This season Clemson is 9-2 at home and 9-9 ATS and Maryland is 4-1 on the road and 9-6 ATS.

In their last games Clemson lost to Boston College 75-69 on Tuesday night and Maryland crushed Miami 81-59.

Clemson hopes that the home crowd can help them snap their 3 game skid. They really need help on offense, as in their 3 game slide they have not scored 70 points once and in their loss to Duke a week ago they only scored a grand total of 47 points.

The Tigers will need a solid game from leading scorer F Trevor Booker (16 ppg) and the G duo of Demontez Stitt (11.2 ppg) and Tanner Smith (10.1 ppg). If these guys do not score it will be hard for them to win, as the Tigers do not have a lot of players that can fill it up.

The Clemson D is solid, as they are holding opponents to an average of 63.2 ppg. They will have to play well tonight against a Maryland offense that is averaging 81.5 ppg.

Maryland has a great backcourt with 3 guards averaging in double figures led by Greivis Vasquez (17.8 ppg). Their lone frontcourt player that is averaging in double figures is Landon Milbourne (14.8 ppg).

The Terrapins will need Milbourne (5.4 rpg) and F Jordan Williams (7.8 rpg) to play good in the paint on Trevor Booker (8.2 rpg) and not let him get easy points inside and keep him off the glass.

Maryland likes to get out and run with their 3 guards and if Clemson can slow them down and make this a half court game they have a great chance to win. Clemson also cannot give the Maryland guards open looks from behind the 3-point line.

Maryland is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games, 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Clemson is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a home favorite, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games, and have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 games as a home favorite.
