Auburn (10-0) is ranked #2 in the BCS rankings and to stay that way they will have to beat Georgia (5-5), who has won 4 of their last 5 games. The Bulldogs lost 4 in a row after their season opening win, but have gotten back in the bowl picture in the last month. The Tigers got an easy win in their last game and it was a good thing that they played a weak team since they are dealing with allegations that Heisman front-runner QB Cam Newton accepted cash to attend Auburn.
Georgia has not lost to Auburn since the 2005 season.
Heading into this SEC game Auburn is 6-4 ATS and Georgia is 5-5 ATS. The Tigers are 8.5-point betting favorites in this game and in the last 7 games between these 2 teams the home team has covered the spread 5 times, which bodes well for Auburn since they are at home this Saturday.
In their last games both teams had no problems with a win, as Auburn beat Chattanooga 62-24 and Georgia beat Idaho State 55-7.
Georgia has a great rushing defense ranked 13th in the nation and they will have to play well in this game against Newton and the Auburn rushing offense that ranks 4th in the nation. Newton can air it out, but the Bulldogs will have to make him beat them through the air to win this game. Newton is Auburn’s leading rusher and he and RB Michael Dyer is each averaging over 6 yards per carry this season. The Bulldogs have a tall task in this game keeping these guys from racking up the rushing yards, but if they can do that they have a good chance for an upset.
Georgia has a good offense led by QB Aaron Murray, who lit up Idaho State last week with 228 yards and 3 TD. He and RB Washaun Ealey have to play well for Georgia to win and may have to play great if the Bulldogs’ D cannot contain Newton. The pressure is likely on Murray since Auburn only ranks 95th in the nation in pass defense, but a solid 18th in run defense.
Obviously Newton if the key in this game, as if he plays like he has been and does not turn the ball over the Tigers will snap their 4-game losing streak against Georgia.
Georgia is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning record, and has an Over record of 5-1 in their last 6 games.
Auburn is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.
Our Selection : The Bulldogs have played well in their last 5 games with a narrow 3-point loss to the Gators as the only loss. Georgia has been giving up a lot of yards on the ground, but their defense has been opportunistic with a plus 8 turnover ratio during the last 5 games. The linesmaker has been a little too generous this week opening the line at Auburn 9.5. It has been bet down to 8.5 at most betting shops, but still has betting value. The Bulldogs should stay close throughout this game against what we feel is a distracted Tigers team. Take the Bulldogs +8.5 at Bodog
