In the BCS Fiesta Bowl in a match up of two undefeated teams the TCU Horned Frogs face the Boise State Broncos. This is a match of last year's Poinsettia Bowl and one where both teams are solid on both offense and defense. This bowl is a little strange with 2 teams from non-BCS conferences facing each other in a BCS bowl game.
The Horned Frogs have the nation's top-ranked defense and they really showed in their last 6 games crushing their opponents and that includes beating the ranked teams of Utah and BYU by a combined 58 points. TCU was 2-0 against ranked teams this season and Boise State was 1-0 against teams ranked in the top 25.
In their last games of the season Boise State beat crushed New Mexico State 42-7 and TCU crushed New Mexico 51-10.
This season Boise State was 8-4 ATS and TCU was 8-3 ATS.
TCU and their 4th ranked offense is led by QB Andy Dalton (2,484 yds 22 TD 5 INT). The Horned Frogs can air it out and have a solid receiving corps, but running the ball is their bread and butter, as they have the nation's 5th ranked rushing offense led by the RB duo of Joseph Turner (732 yds 11 TD) and Matthew Tucker (687 yds 8 TD), who averaged 6.4 yards per carry this season. If these guys have good games on the ground TCU will be in great shape. The Broncos have the nation's 13th ranked defense, but they are better at defending the pass than the run so this is not a good match of for them with the strong rushing offense of the Horned Frogs.
The Boise State offense ranks 8th in the nation and is led QB Kellen Moore (3,325 yds 39 TD 3 INT), who is the nation's top rated passer. His main WR targets of Titus Young and Austin Pettis combined for 133 receptions and 1,819 yards with 24 TD's and each averaged at least 13 yards per reception. The Broncos also have a legit rushing attack led by RB Jeremy Avery (1,130 6 TD), who is averaged 5.7 yards per carry this season. TCU's defense is the top-ranked unit in the nation and they rank in the top 5 in both pass defense and rushing defense. The Boise State offensive line has been stellar this season, as Moore was only sacked 5 times in the whole season, zero in the past 5 games, and they will be facing a TCU front line D that has 32 sacks this season.
Our Selection : Sure both teams are undefeated this season, but that's where the similarities end. The Horned Frogs played a far more difficult schedule as has been proven by the Mountain West's bowl record this year. Four MWC teams have played in Bowls this year winning all four games by an average margin of 17 points. WAC teams on the other hand have played in 3 bowls being outscored by 41 points. Lay the 7 and take TCU in what should be an easy win. Take the Horned Frogs -7.5
