Opening Line: Texas A&M +7 / Georgia -7 O/U 64
Time: 5 PM EST Monday December 28, 2009 on ESPN
The Texas A&M Aggies and their 5th ranked offense take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Independence Bowl. This game may be a barnburner, as the Aggies have a dynamic offense and while the Georgia offense is not a high scoring one they may be in this game facing an Aggies' defense that only ranks 107th in the nation. Texas A&M ranked last in the Big 12 in both points allowed (32.7 ppg) and yards allowed per game (431.3).
Texas A&M did not play well down the stretch losing 3 of their last 4 games, while Georgia ended the season well winning 3 of their last 4 games including beating ACC champion and BCS bowl bound Georgia Tech in their season finale. This season the Aggies were 3-5 in the Big 12 and 0-2 against ranked teams and the Bulldogs were 6-2 in SEC play and was 1-3 against ranked teams.
This season Texas A&M was 6-5-1 ATS and Georgia was 4-7 ATS.
In their last game Georgia beat Georgia Tech 30-24 while Texas A&M lost to Texas 49-39.
Texas A&M and their solid offense are led by QB Jerrod Johnson (3,217 yds 28 TD 6 INT). His main target of WR Uzoma Nwachukwu averaged over 18 yards per reception this season. The Aggies are not all about the pass, as they have the nation's 25th ranked rushing offense led by the RB duo of Christine Michael and Cyrus Gray, who both averaged around 5 yards per carry this season. These guys may be counted on to provide more offense in this game, as Georgia is much better defending the pass than the run. One key for the Aggies on offense is their offensive line, as they gave up 27 sacks and the Bulldogs front line D is decent and had 28 sacks this season.
The Bulldogs do not have the best offense ranking 73rd in the nation, but they will be facing an Aggies' defense that only ranks 104th in the nation. Georgia QB Joe Cox (2,426 yds 22 14 TD) may have a big since the Aggies pass D is weak and is only ranked 11th in the nation. The Bulldogs can run the ball with the duo of Washaun Ealey (639 yds 3 TD) and Caleb King (534 yds 5 TD), who each averaged over 5 yards per carry this season. If these RB's can have a good game it will allow the Bulldogs to control the clock and keep the high-scoring offense of the Aggies on the sidelines.
