The Fresno State Bulldogs and their solid offense face the Wyoming Cowboys in the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Bulldogs won 7 of their last 8 games, but they were only 1-4 against teams that are playing in bowls. The Cowboys finished the season at .500 and won 2 of their last 3 games, but they may be one of the weaker teams playing in a bowl. Wyoming only beat one team this season that ended with a winning record and that was against Weber State.
This season Fresno State was 6-5 ATS and Wyoming was 8-3 ATS.
The Bulldogs rank 19th in the nation on offense and have one of the best RB's not many have heard of in Ryan Mathews (1,664 yds 17 TD), who averaged an impressive 6.8 yards per carry this season. He leads a Fresno State rushing offense that ranked 7th in the nation. That is far from a good match for the Wyoming defense, which only ranks 91st in the nation in defending the run. The Bulldogs averaged just over 34 points per game and the mediocre, at best, Cowboys defense will have trouble keeping them out of the end zone. FSU QB Ryan Colburn (2,333 yds 18 TD) leads a decent passing offense and his 2 main targets of Seyi Ajirotutu and Jamel Hamler each averaged at least 13 yards per reception.
The Cowboys only rank 112th on offense and to show how unimpressive they were on that side of the ball they gave up 124 more points than they scored this season. They have the nation's 86th ranked rushing offense and the RB duo of Alvester Alexander (503 yds 6 TD) and Brandon Stewart (470 yds 2 TD) will have to have a good game since the Cowboys passing offense, which ranks 100th in the nation led by (1,752 yds 7 TD 4 INT). However, luckily for the Cowboys they will be facing a Fresno State defense that only ranks 96th in the nation and gave up a ton of points this season.
Wyoming only averaged just over a TD per game when they played ranked teams this season. On the other hand Fresno State played decent against ranked teams this season and their offense may be too much for Wyoming to handle.
The Cowboys are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games and the total has gone Under in 4 of the Bulldogs last 6 games.
