Time: 8:20 PM EST Sunday January 3, 2010 on NBC
In the season finale for both teams the New York Jets host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night. For the Jets it's easy, as if they will they are in the playoffs, but if they lose they will be watching the playoffs from home. The Bengals need to win this game and have New England lose to move up to the 3rd seed in the AFC. This is a great match up between the Jets and their great rushing offence taking on the Bengals and their stellar rushing defense. Both teams are coming off a win and each is playing with a lot of confidence. Interesting fact in that the Bengals are just the 6th playoff bound team that did not have one player selected to the Pro Bowl.
Last week the Jets ruined the Indianapolis Colts' perfect season beating them 29-15 and the Bengals beat the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10.
This season the Jets are 3-4 at home and 8-7 ATS and the Bengals are 4-3 on the road and 7-8 ATS.
The Bengals and their 20th ranked offense is led by QB Carson Palmer (3,094 yds 21 TD 12 INT) and his main target of Chad Ochocinco (72 rec 1,047 yds 9 TD) had a great season and the Jets' defense has to keep him from making the big play down field. The strength of the Bengals' offense is running the ball with RB Cedric Benson (1,251 yds 6 TD). The Jets have the league's top-rated defense and they are solid at both defending the pass than the run. Their main goal in this game is containing Benson and making Palmer beat them with his arm.
The Jets rank 21st on offense and they are led by rookie QB Mark Sanchez (2,381 yds 12 TD 20 INT), who has been up and down all season, but has shown flashes of being a top-flight QB in the league. He has 20 INT's this season and he will have to hold onto the ball in this game and not turn it over. His main targets of WR's Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards combined for 1,308 receiving yards and 7 TD's and each averaged at least 15 yards per reception this season. Much like the Bengals the Jets' strength on offense is running the ball with RB Thomas Jones (1,324 yds 12 TD). The Cincinnati defense ranks 4th in the league and they are better at defending the run than the pass.
